Where Rue Tends to Buy her books.

I typically do not order books online because of the shipping cost. I do buy on Book Outlet from time to time especially when I can get 6 books for 12 bucks including shipping. I tend to go to my local independent books stores and buy used books. I love going to book stores and browsing  through the selves. I have a confession, if I am drawn to the cover, I tend to buy it, unless when I read the synopsis I know right away that I will not like it. There have been many books that I own that have been cover buys for me.

If the book I buy for the cover and I don't like it, I will take the book and trade it in for store credit. Yes, I do love collecting books, and my goal is to one day have a huge library of my own, but if I know that I will not read it again, I will trade it in.

I don't remember the last time I have bought a book for a mainstream bookstore. To be honest, they are usually over priced. Plus I like to support my local bookstore. Too many bookstores have been shut down because people do not go their anymore.

Book Outlet Black Friday Haul 2014

I told you all about the sale that Book Outlet had over Thanksgiving for Black Friday. I picked up six books, and I paid around 12 bucks including shipping for all of these books. Here is what I picked up.

The Liar by Emily McKay.
This is the sequel to The Farm, which I finished up back in September. I loved that novel and wanted to pick up the sequel to read the series.

The Hunt, The Prey, and The Trap by Andrew Fukuda.
This is a trilogy that I have been eyeing for a while. I am not really sure what it is suppose to be about, and I haven't heard much about this series. I think it has something to do with vampire, and the synopsis looked like something I would enjoy.

Sweet Legacy by Tera Lynn Childs
This is the third and final (I think) book of the Medusa Girls series. I own the other two in the series, but I have yet to read it. This series is about three girls that at descendants of Medusa. Once again the synopsis sounded something like I would enjoy, and I have not heard much about it.

Unbreakable by Elizabeth Norris
This is the second novel to the Unraveling Series, which I have yet to start. I bought Unraveling in my last purchase from Book Outlet. Once again I don't really know what it's about, but when I read the synopsis of Unraveling it seemed that it had a strong female main character, so I picked it up. I picked this one up so when I read Unraveling that I can continue the series. There is a novella or series companion with this that I do not have it's called Undone, which if I can find it fairly cheap I will pick it up as well.

If you have not checked out Book Outlet and you love finding deals on books. CHECK IT OUT!!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Christmas.

Peaceful and Happy Thoughts,

What Rue Read in November and December Expectations

Well, another month of 2014 has passed. It's time for what I was able to get finished this month of November and what I would like to finish in December. I hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving Holiday. For once this year I was able to not overstuff myself so I was miserable.

I was able to finish more books than I thought I would, but two of the three books I finished this month, I had started back in October and maybe even into September. Two of the Three books as well were on audio book.

Here is what I finished this month:
1. Revealed by PC and Kristin Cast: 3 out of 5 stars*.
This is the eleventh book of the series. The twelfth and final book of the series came out in October, which I plan on getting my hands on soon into the new year. I also managed to lose this book not only once but twice. I started this book back October, and lost it for two weeks, found it, then lost it again. I just finished it this week due to being on Thanksgiving Break.
2. The Fault in Our Stars by John Greene: 3 out of 5 stars.
This book didn't keep my attention well. I think that it could be because I had such a high expectation on this book. It was an okay book.
3. FanGirl by Rainbow Rowell: 5 out of 5 stars
This has made it on to my favorite books list. I absolutely LOVED this book. I really wish this was a series. I would love it to follow Cath all through college.

Expectations for  December:
I am currently working on two books. I am on Disk 8 of 10 on "Orange is the New Black" By Piper Kierman, and this week I also started "City of Heavenly Fire" By Cassandra Clare. This was probably a mistake considering next week is finals, and I am having a hard time putting this book down. I am currently on page 152 of 725. At first the size of the book terrified the crap out of me, but so far it's been pretty good. I can see this one being a fairly quick finish, but due to finals, tonight will probably be the last night I really get to read on it until after finals are complete. This also completes my last book goal for the year of 2014. I would like to finish two other books for December, but I don't know whether that will happen. I would also like to read "The One" by Kiera Cass, and the two novella from the Shatter Me trilogy "Unite Me"

Peaceful and Happy Thoughts,
--Rue.

What Rue Read in October and November Expectations

This month I was only able to finish, Four: A collection of Divergent Stories By Veronica Roth , which I gave 5 out of 5 stars. I really liked it. I listened to it on Audio book.

I have started a new job, so along with school work I don't get much time to read right now. November is going to be a busy month. I have a few exams, a huge research paper and a book review due. I am hoping to finish Revealed by PC and Kristin Cast. I am over half way through it, but I have lost it. I can't find it any where. I cleaned my room thinking it was there, but it's not. I want to finish it, so I can start on the last one of the series which just came out. I am currently listening to FanGirl by Rainbow Rowell, which by the way, I am loving it. I can't believe I have waited this long to read\listen to. I also picked up Landline by Rowell as well, so this will probably be the next audio book I listen to. I doubt that I will pick up a book to read if I can't find Revealed because this will be a studies focused month. If I do pick up another book I may try and read a historical fiction novel, maybe a Philippa Gregory novel. Right now, in my classes we are studying about English history. Also I have been really into the television show, Reign.

Peaceful and Happy Thoughts,

Recent New Book Releases. (Oct. 2014)

This past week, two of my most anticipated book releases of 2014 were released. Both of them are the ending of a series.
  • Redeemed by PC and Kristin Cast: This is the final book of the House of Night Series. This is one of my favorite series, and I have read all, but one of the series, which I am currently reading, and all of the novels. I really hope this beloved series of mine ends well. I have had several series that I have loved, not end well. I have to wait a little bit before picking this one up, but it will soon be mine.
  • Undivided by Neal Shusterman: This is the final book in the Unwind Series. This one just came out Tuesday of this week. After the last book of the series, I was up in the air about reading this one, but I am going to pick it up and finish the series. It may be a little bit before I get to reading this one, but I will finish it.
Peaceful and Happy Thoughts,

What Rue Read in September and Expectations for October

My expectations for September was to finish at least one book, since being back in school, I am unable to read as much as I was during school.

I was able to finish that one book, plus three novellas, which I consider books. As always, the books I own will be starred, which the book that I did read I do own.  I have not finished an audio book this month, but I am currently listening to "Bloodroot" by Amy Greene, and I am still listening to  "The Fault in Our Stars" By John Greene

Here is what I finished reading this month:
  1. The Farm by Emily McKay: 5 out of 5 stars*
  2. Kalona's Fall by PC and Kristin Cast: 5 out of 5 stars
  3. The Prince by Kiera Cass: 3 out of 5 stars
  4. The Guard by Kiera Cass: 3 out of 5 stars
Expectations for October:
My expectations for October is pretty much like they were for September. I would like to finish at least one book. I am planning on starting today either "The One" by Kiera Cass or "Revealed" by PC and Kristin Cast. I would like to finish at least one of the two audio books that I am currently listening to at this point. I would like to finish at least one novella. I own the two novellas from the Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi Series.

What Rue Read in August and September Expectations

Back in July, I said that I would be lucky to finish 3 books, but I ended up reading 5 books in August. Now the reason that I read so few is that we moved in August, so the majority of my time was packing and moving.

As always, the books I own will be starred, which I don't think I read any books this month that I currently own, and the audio book will be bolded. Also the rating I gave on good reads will follow each book. Clock worth Princess I book listened to and read the book. I also bought the book.

Here is what I read this past month:
  1. Champion by Marie Lu: 4 out of 5 stars
  2. Dragon's Oath by PC and Kristin Cast: 5 out of 5 stars
  3. The Bitter Kingdom by Rae Carson: 5 out of 5 stars
  4. The Giver by Lois Lowery: 3 out of 5 stars
  5. Clockworth Princess by Cassandra Clare: 5 out of 5 stars. *
Clockworth Princess was the last book I read in August and for the summer. School started back at the end of August, so my summer is technically over. By July, I had read the goal that I wanted to read for the summer. For the summer, I read a total of 36 books.

September Expectations:
Now since school has started back I will not be able to read as much as I previously was reading this summer. My expectations for September is to complete at least one book. I am currently reading "The Farm" By Emily McKay, and I am half way through. Also I am listening to "The Fault in Our Stars" By John Greene. I will keep you all updated.  I am three books away from my new goal of 50 books for the year. If I am able to complete one book a month from now until the end of the year, then I will be able to read at least 51 books, and pass my 50 books for the year goal.  I am unsure of how many more books past 50 I will read. I will get to read a few more in December since my classes end in December.

What Rue Read in July And August Expectations.

In June, I read a ton, but for my July Expectations, I did state that I wasn't going to read near that amount. July has been an extremely busy month, so instead of reading a lot this month, sleep won the battle of sleep versus reading this month. I did manage to surpass my July Expectations of 5 books, which I am pretty excited about being that I was so busy. I read a total of 8 books: one was a novella, and one I listened to on audio book about 3\4th of the way, and then ended up changing over to actually reading it.

I did surpass my summer reading goals this month of reading 25 books this summer. I started counted the books in May since that is when I started my summer reading. "UnSouled" By Neal Shusterman was my 25th book this summer break.

As always, the books I own will be starred, which I don't think I read any books this month that I currently own, and the audio book will be bolded. Also the rating I gave on good reads will follow each book.

  1. UnSouled By Neal Shusterman 2 out of 5 stars.
  2. The Girl of Fire and Thrones By Rae Carson 5 out of 5 stars
  3. The Elite by Kiera Cass 5 out of 5 stars
  4. Prodigy by Marie Lu 5 out of 5 stars
  5. Lenobia's Vow by PC and Kristin Cast 3 out of 5 stars
  6. Once a Witch by Carolyn MacCullough 2 out 5 stars
  7. The Crown of Embers By Rae Carson 5 out of 5 stars
  8. Clockworth Prince By Cassandra Clare 5 out of 5 stars
During July, I went through a reading slump. I actually started two books and ended up putting them down. One was a genre that I am not the biggest fan of "high fantasy", but it had pretty good ratings, and I had picked up The Girl of Fire and Thrones this month and loved it. This book I got about 50 pages into, and I couldn't get into it. I think it may have been the reading slump or because I picked it up right after I finished The Elite, and I couldn't at the time get my hands on the last book to see how the series finishes up.

August Expectations.

I am currently about half way through "Champion" by Marie Lu, which I will finish over the weekend. I am also going to finish up the Girl of Fire and Throne Series, "The Bitter Kingdom", and also finish up the Infernal Devices Series, "Clockworth Princess." August is going to be even busier than July, so  I am hoping to finish at least these three books. August is the last month to get a lot of reading done, since I start back with school at the end of the months, and I know that the classes I will be taking this semester will require a lot of reading, so reading for fun, will be limited.

Peaceful and Happy Thoughts,
--Rue.

What Rue Read in June and July expectations.

I can't believe it's already July. Where is 2014 going? I didn't not realize until last night how many books I read in the month of June. I was shocked when I counted them. I read 17 books. 17books! I was shocked. I averaged to read a book every other day in June. In June I listened to 4 audio books which one of those was a novella. A couple of books were read in literally a few hours.

As always, I will bold the audio books and star books I own. The audio books and the rest I borrowed from the public library, which I do a lot as you can probably tell if you had looked at my Summer Reading and2014 Books Finished pages.

I am not going to review these books here. I will give you my goodreads rating on this book. Some of these books I am planning on a full review later. Check out my goodreads link where I do usually put a small review  when I am finished.

  1. Whispers at Midnight by CC Hunter 3 out of 5 stars
  2. Rise by Anna Carey 5 out of 5 stars
  3. Chosen at Nightfall by CC Hunter 3 out of 5 stars
  4. Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood 3 out of 5 stars
  5. Salem Falls by Jodi Picoult * 4 out of 5 stars
  6. City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare 5 out of 5 stars
  7. Unwind by Neal Shusterman 5 out of 5 stars
  8. The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross 4 out of 5 stars
  9. The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks 5 out of 5 stars
  10. The Girl in the Clockworth Collar  by Kady Cross 5 out of 5 stars
  11. The Lightning Theif by Rick Riordan 4 out of 5 stars
  12. Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi 5 out of 5 stars
  13. Clockworth Angel by Cassandra Clare 5 out of 5 stars
  14. Harry Potter Book 1 by JK Rowling 4 out of 5 stars
  15. Neferet's Curse by PC and Kristin Cast--novella  5 out of 5 stars
  16. The Girl with the Iron Touch By Kady Cross 4 out of 5 stars
  17. UnWholly by Neal Shusterman 5 out of 5 stars
July I am not expecting to read this much. I have other things going on this month that will take place of ready so far. I do expect to read at least 5 books in July. If I do more than that, then great.

Reading Versus Sleeping

90% of the time Reading is the winner, except on Monday's, when I am usually asleep before my head even hits the pillow.

Right now, I am waiting to finish UnWholly  by Neal Shusterman before I go to sleep. It's 12:30 in the morning, and I am about 175 pages from being finished. I can probably finish those in about an hour, but I'm starting to feel tired. So my choses are: finish tonight, read a few more pages and then sleep, or just go on to bed. I do work tomorrow night so I should probably get to bed, but I want to finish this book tonight so I can start another tomorrow...

This isn't the first time this problem has happened. As I said before reading usually wins out. Some nights I will finish a book around 10 or so and start another, and can't put it down, so it's 4 in the morning when I finish shut my eyes. This usually ends up me waking up with a headache behind my eyes. I guess you have to experience a little pain sometimes when doing something you love to do.

Anyone else have this problem with me?

Oh... Reading won again, and I'm going to finish UnWholly before I turn off my lights and study the back of my eyelids.

Love Triangles in Young Adult

Remember Team Jacob or Team Edward...

It seems that a lot of Young Adult novels seem to have a love triangle. Why is this? I mean I know that when I was a teenage I was never in a love triangle. I just finished a YA novel that had the start of a love triangle, but nothing really happened with that storyline. It may later on into the series, but why does there have to be a love triangle. I am tried of them in YA, but I think that I am a minority in this. So love triangle will remain in YA novels.

"Unwind" By: Neal Shusterman

I just finished "Unwind" By Neal Shusterman, and I wanted to jump up on here and write a little about it. This book is amazing, and I would recommended that you read it. I have not been left feeling about a book like this in a while. It made me think about life. It also made me think about the stance on abortion. If you are needing a book to pick up, I would suggest picking this one up. Currently, this series had three books to it, but I believe that there is going to be a least one more, which will be released sometime this year.

How I am going on my Book goals for 2014.

At the beginning of the year, I set some goals for myself on what I wanted to read and how many I wanted to read. As you have read, I want to read 25 books for the year. I also wanted to read certain books in 2014. Since the year is half way gone I thought that I would share how I was doing.

As of June 1, 2014, I have read a total of 17 books. I am planning on doing a page tab to list all the books I have read for the year. Today June 6, 2014, I read my 20th book, so I am only 5 books away from finishing my number of books I wanted to read for the year. I should pass that during June. Also another goal I set for myself for the summer is to read 25 books alone, if I pass that goal, I will have read 35 books. I have already read 10 books this summer, and that's in less than one month. I started reading for fun again in mid May when I was finished with my finals.

Here are the following books or series I wanted to finish reading by the end of the year:
  • Finish the Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare
  • Finish the Delirium Series By Lauren Oliver
  • Allegiant By Veronica Roth which would finish Divergent Series
  • Finish the eve series by Anna Carey
  • Reavealed by PC and Kristin Cast (House of Night Series, this is the next to the last book which comes out sometime in October)
  • Harry Potter Series. I know this should have already been read, but in my Welcome post, I explain why I haven't read it.
Now here is an update on how I am doing with these.
  • I am currently listening to on Audio Book City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare, which is the next to the last novel in the series. At the beginning of the year, I had only read\listened to City of Bones. I am probably going to end up having to buy City of Heavenly Fire real soon, because I cannot wait for my library to get it on Audio book or in book form.
  • I have decided not to finish the Delirium Series. I started listening to the second book, but I couldn't not get into it. Also Delirium, the first book, took me forever to read and forever to get into it. I will futher explain why I will not be finishing this series in another blog post to come soon.
  • I did finish Allegiant, and I was disappointed to say the least. I am planning to fully review it in a later post.
  • A couple of days ago I finished the Eve triology, and this has probably made it into my top 10 triology\series. I read the last book in the triology in less than 2 hours. I couldn't put it down. I don't think a lot of people liked this one, but I loved it.
  • I have not read Revealed yet, but I do plan on purchasing it soon. I own all the other House of Night series. I have to have it read before October when the last book comes out.
  • I have not started the Harry Potter Series, yet. I am thinking about listening to it instead of reading it. Like I said in my welcome post, I have seen all the movies, and liked them, so I will probably like to listening to it better than reading it.
Peaceful and Happy thoughts,

Welcome to Rue's Book World.

Hello,

I am Jamie, aka Rue. Rue is a nickname I have had since I was in about 8th grade. I am a 25 year old college graduate who is crazy and going back to get my second bachelor's degree in History. This is my third blog. I started my first blog almost three years ago, which is a Beauty blog, but mainly deals with my gigantic nail polish collection, which has gotten too big. My second one is more of a personal blog where I rant or just write about stuff going on in my life. This blog wouldn't really fit in either of those two blogs, so here we are. Rue's starting a new blog.

I love reading, BUT I have not always loved to read. I did not start loving to read until I was almost 20 years old in college. I did read for fun a little before, but it was only like one book a year. I had elementary and high school to do that. In elementary school we had to read so many books on our own and then take tests on them. In high school, our English department would not pick books out that I was interested in at the time. There is one exception which was Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird. I loved that book, and it is probably my favorite book. My love for reading started to develop with the Twilight series. I wanted to read the book before I went to watch the movie, so I read it over Thanksgiving break of my sophomore year of college. After starting that I also started reading the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris, which True Blood is based on. I finished Twilight series over Christmas break, and my love of books continued.

In 2012, my world was turned upside down, when I lost my mamaw, who was not only my grandmother, but she was also the woman who raised me. She was my second mom, and it was a difficult time for me and my family. I turned to books to get away. They are my get away, and I think that is why I tend to like dystopian novel A LOT!

Last year I read over 25 books. I am back in college, so  I don't get to read as much as I like to. If I get to read one book every two week or so I am good. I do listen to audio books, so that is one way I can keep up my reading.

My original goal at the beginning of the year was to ready at least 25 books this year knowing since I am back in college and I would only get to read one book every two weeks or so. But if the summer goes like I want it, I will be over it. I am wanting to ready 25 books this summer alone.

That's a lot of books, so I must own a lot. Not really. I go to my public library, and borrow a lot of the books I read.  I also tend to trade a lot of my books from a local used book store, especially ones that I thought were only ok, and I know I will never read again. So I trade them in to get credit to buy new, well new to me, books so I can read them. Why keep them if they are just going to gather dust on my shelves. But one day I would like to have a library that has floor to ceiling bookshelves with them completely full. My dream library is like Beast's Library in the Beauty and the Beast.

I tend to read a lot of Young Adult fiction for fun, which are either dystopian, as I said above, or Vampire and other supernatural. I am a huge fan of Nicholas Sparks, and I have read almost all of his novels. With that being said, I generally do not like Historical Fiction, which is weird for I am a history major in college right now. I also do like High Fantasy novels. I know it's a well liked book series, but I did not like "The Lord of The Rings" I couldn't get into the book or even the movie. I am still out on the Harry Potter Series though. I read the first book in seventh grade, and it took me forever to read, so I did not finish the series. I have though seen all the movies, and I love them. This is one of my goals this year is to finish the series. If I don't finish it, I would like to make a serious dent into it.

I tend to listen to several books on audio books while I am traveling to work. I am usually reading one book and listening to another. I will disclose in any reviews if I listened to it or actually read the book.

Peaceful and Happy Thoughts,
--Rue.
