My Reading Routine-- Summer 2015

This year is the first year I actually have a reading routine. So here it is.

First when I get home, if I am listening to a book at work, I will write in my Reading Journal, which is where I write in daily about what I am reading and if I have any prediction, frustrations, or questions about the book I am listening to. If I complete a book at work, I will go ahead and write my book journal entry, which is more a review or something that I can read to remember the book especially if it's part of the series, and I will have to wait for the next book. I am planning on a blog post about both journals.

For about an hour before bed, instead of watching television or my laptop, I go to my room and read. Right now, I am currently reading about three books at a time. One is an easy read; one is a re-read; and one is typically a harder book to get through. I will typically read a chapter or two of the harder book and then move onto the easy read. The re-read novel is typically read last, if at all at night. After the hour, I will put my books down, and if anything happened that day that I want to write about, I will write in my Reading Journal, and if I complete a book, I will write in my book journal. Then lights out and to bed.

Do you all have a reading routine?

2015 Goal Updates

Back at the beginning of the year I posted 8 goals that I wanted to accomplish for 2015, and I thought since it's July, which means half of 2015 is over I would update everyone on my reading goals.

  • Read\complete 75 books
  • I have completed a total of 65 books by the end of June, which means I am 10 away from my goal. When I reach my goal, I will increase the amount I want to finish. I would really like to be able to finish 100 books by the end of 2015.
  • Read at least 15 books from my TBR bookshelf
  • I have read nine books off my TBR (To Be Read) shelf. I want to make a dent in my TBR shelf, which has gotten a crazy amount of books on it. I am embarrassed to put the amount I have to read, but let's say that 15 will not make a dent in it.
  • Finish at least 4 unfinished series
  • Now I have finished four series this year, but when I set this goal I wanted to finish four series that I had started and had yet to finish them. I did not have any particular series in mind except "House of Night" Series by PC and Kristin Cast. I have complete two series that I had started: The Caster Chronicles by Kami Garci and Margaret Stohl and Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson. I have not yet touched the last HON book, but I plan to soon.
  • Give Bloodlines Series by Richelle Mead another chance. I have read the first two and about a quarter of the third book and put it down.
  • I have yet to touch this one. I am going to end up beginning the whole series over and starting fresh. I cannot remember really what happened to in any of them.

  • Read more from different genres besides Young Adult.
  • I have blown this goal out of the water. The majority of the books I have completed this year had been non YA novels. I think I have read more Adult novels this year than I did in the past few years combined.
  • Continue to read Harry Potter Series
  • I have not read a Harry Potter book yet.
  • Read at least one classic
  • This is completed. I read "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte back in March. I just do not like most of the classics.
  • Re-Read some of my favorite novels from when I was younger.
  • I haven't touched this one yet either. But their is a couple of books that I want to read. One being "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee.

I have complete 2 of the 8 goals that I have set for myself. On three of the goals I am over half way to reaching my goal. Then three I have not even given a chance to.

Reading Updates and Goals for July 2015

It's been a long time since I have blog on here. It's been since the end of January since I blogged and updated you all on my reading. Life just got in the way, and blogging was always on the bottom of my to do list. I have continued to read and listen to audio books.

Today's blog is going to be an update on how many books I have currently read, and an update on the goals I made for 2015. I am not going to list every book I have read since Feb, but I will list the amount I read each month, and any books I want to highlight. Then I will let you know what my goals are for July.

For February, I completed a total of 11 books for the month. To accomplish my goal of completely 75 books for the year, I needed to read a total of 6 or 7 books a month. Now, I did not physically read a book in Feb; I listened to all of them. Most of the books that I listened to in the month of February was from The Hollow Series by Kim Harrison. I did finally complete "If I Stay" By Gayle Forman, which I really enjoyed and gave it 5 out of 5 stars on goodreads. Out of the 11 books I complete only 3 of them were Young Adult novels.

For March, I completed 10 books for the month. Out of the 10, I only physically read one book, which was "Captivated by You" by Sylvia Day. I am currently caught up on the Crossfire series, and waiting the release of the last book. This book I gave 4 out of 5 stars. Day starting telling the story in both Gideon and Eva's point of view, and I typically do not like stories that are told in multiple points of view. Also why did she change it after three books. Another book that I finished in March was "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon. I absolutely loved this book, and have started making my way through the series.

April, I was in a reading slump. I only finished two books in April, which both was completed in the beginning. These books were both from the Fallen series by Lauren Kate. I had finished Fallen back in March and continued on in the series.

In May, I picked up my reading. I was able to finished 13 novels, and I physically read two of those. This month I completeled "The Hollows Series" by Kim Harrison. This means I completed the series, which is 13 books long, in four months. This has become a favorite series of mine. Also, I completed the second novel of the Outlander series, "Dragonfly in Amber." I also completed the Castor Chronicles, which I never thought I would after not liking the second novel. I also read and enjoyed the following books, and they received 5 out of 5 stars : "I was Here" by Gayle Forman, "The Bane Chronicles" By Cassandra Clare, Sarah R. Brenna, and Maureen Johnson (Can't wait to "Lady of Midnight comes out, which is to come out sometime next year), "The Heir" by Kiera Cass, which was anticipation of 2015, "Rebel Belle" by Rachel Hawkins, and "We Were Liars" by e. lockhart.

June was a fun month in listening and reading books. I discovered an author that I am really starting to love, Iris Johansen. This month I discovered her Eve Duncan series and her and her husband's, Roy Johansen, Kendra Michael's series. I have for this month been into murder\mystery novels. I completed three Eve Duncan novels and all of the books available from the Kendra Michael's series. I completed a total of 15 novels this month, which I read 4 of those.  Some other books besides the Johansen novels that I completed this months and really enjoyed was "The DUFF" by Kody Keplinger, "Dorothy Must Die" by Danielle Paige, "Fairest" by Marissa Meyer, "and "Gameboard of the Gods" by Richelle Mead. I also re-read a few novels this month. Also I completed the third book to the Outlander series, "Voyager."

    Goals for July--
    1. Read 2500 pages this month. I have been setting page goals the past few months, and it keeps me physically reading instead of listening to books all the time.
    2. Physically complete four books.
    3. Complete a total of 15 books this month.

    Peaceful and Happy Thoughts,
